What’s happening
Restore & Reconnect: Restorative Yoga for Queer Folks in the Gorge
Once a month, please come and join me for an evening practice of meditation, sound, and connecting with cool queer people in the Gorge!
Who
This is a queer space. We love you allies, but please only attend if you identify as queer!
What
I’ll be leading a guided mediation and gentle embodied movement practice, for which zero previous yoga experience is required. We will start with meditation, grounding, and breath to orient ourselves to the space. Then I’ll offer time for guided and intuitive movement with lots of props for support - think bolsters, pillows, blocks, blankets. You’re also welcome to stay in a seat or lying down the whole time; there’s no expectation for how you show up! We will close out with sound, and an optional moment to share and connect.
When/Where
Every first Tuesday of the month from 8-9:30PM at Flow Yoga in Hood River
Why
I acknowledge the ways that yoga spaces and studios in the US can be/feel harmful, unsafe, exclusive, and otherwise inaccessible to queer folks. This class is intended to be a space for all bodies to experience joy in a space specifically for YOU!
The Deets
Every first Tuesday of the month from 8-9:30PM at Flow Yoga in Hood River
Zero previous experience with yoga needed; this practice is intended to be truly all-levels, so come exactly as you are
Participation is donation-optional, with all money donated going directly to The Portland Immigrant Rights Coalition. If money is of any concern, please show up and enjoy yourself anyway!
Sign up below! If you’d like to make an optional donation to support our community, you can do so with cash or Venmo at the time of the event.
*100% of donations will be given to The Portland Immigrant Rights Coalition.
Rage: A Workshop of Embodied Expression and Witnessing
Who
This is a space for those of us who are the most impacted by misogyny: ALL women (amab, trans, nb, cis), ALL non-binary folks, ALL trans folks are welcome and celebrated. Girls, gays, & theys.
What
I, Lizzy Crowne, am a licensed trauma therapist and a trained yoga guide - however, this is not group therapy, nor is this a yoga class. This is a container to express your justified rage.
You get to decide what you need from this time. I will guide the whole experience, but you might notice while you’re in it that you want to veer away from my suggestions and breathe differently, move differently, scream or cry or laugh or punch a pillow… and doing so is the whole point. YOUR body, YOUR choice.
When/Where
***This workshop has already taken place. If you are interested in a future offering like this, please fill out the webform and let me know!
Why
There are many offerings which encourage us to slow down; regulate; neutralize; calm. These resources are important and serve us well…. but what do we do with our anger? Anger is energy that needs to be meaningfully moved through our bodies.
The message we receive from society is loud and clear: cis-men get to be mad, unpredictable, loud, demanding, direct. These qualities are often rewarded and protected.
But we are taught to fear these human responses within ourselves. Quiet them, repress them, be smaller and keep it in - these messages from society are loudest towards BIPOC folks.
I have been feeling deep anger about the violent, misogynistic, disgusting words said by Renee Nicole Good's murderer after he killed her: "fucking bitch".
I have felt these words send familiar shockwaves through my own body, as I am reminded of the many, many times a man has hurled these words at me. And... the many, many times I have been encouraged to stay small, be quiet, move on, let it go, etc.
This space will offer an opportunity to express, release, witness, and be witnessed.
Silence might keep the peace. But rage can keep you whole. -Christabel Mintah Galloway
The Deets
This space will honor your rage to be expressed and witnessed in a safe container. Here’s what you can expect from this experience:
Opening circle to set intentions, expectations, and create safety.
Guided breathwork (activating), leading into somatic expression of rage (guided movements with option to move freely), leading to opportunity for primal screaming.
Follow this with soothing, regulating, down-shifting breath and movement.
Closing circle with option to share insights.
Intentional playlist to support each moment of this practice.
Informed consent is important, so you are aware of what you’re opting-in for. There will be loud music, and perhaps loud sounds coming from others as we give ourselves permission to release our rage. If you have concerns about anything, please feel free to ask me directly and I’d be happy to brainstorm accommodations or provide clarity.
