Trauma Therapy

Have you ever experienced thoughts like, “part of me wants to take this path, while part of me wants to do this other thing”? These inner states are parts of self. We are all complex, multidimensional beings, and our parts make up the whole self. You’re not broken or shattered.
You’re already whole.
As humans, I believe we are naturally oriented towards healing and survival. For those of us who have experienced trauma, our parts tend to work overtime to keep us safe from perceived harm. And sometimes, parts behave in ways that don’t feel aligned with our present-day self.
With me, therapy is the process of turning towards your inner world to integrate your whole self, and turn up the volume of your powerful intuition and wisdom. Through this process, I hope you will be empowered to move towards the life you envision for yourself. You’re capable and worthy, and it’s all possible.

Approach

I align with a non-pathologizing approach to therapy. This means that I view “symptoms” as traits or behaviors that our minds and bodies have adopted to protect us from further harm. Those parts of ourselves that cause us distress, or interfere with our relationships, or feel harmful... even these parts are ultimately trying to protect us as best they can.
I believe one powerful way to move towards healing is by strengthening and reclaiming our connection to our bodies. During traumatic experiences, often parts dissociate the mind from the body as a form of protection. While this helps us to survive in the moment, dissociation can happen long after the trauma has ended, keeping us out of the present moment, activating feelings from the past. My background as a Registered Yoga Teacher informs my holistic approach to mental health; the mind, body, and soul are so connected, it is essential that they work together to help us heal.
As an eclectic therapist, I pull from more than one modality. I am trained in EMDR, and am drawn towards working with Internal Family Systems (IFS), Somatic Experiencing, Narrative Therapy, and Mindfulness, but know that each client will have different needs, so we'll work together to find what fits. Lastly, I value joy and humor, so I hope that we will laugh together too!
I strive to make you feel safe, and seen, and I deeply believe in your resilience.

I am honored to work with people from all walks of life, and welcome your unique identity.

Orienting towards social justice is an absolute priority for me, both in my personal and professional life. I acknowledge that cultural competency is not a destination, and commit to a lifetime of continued learning to best serve all people who may walk through my door.

I strive not to make assumptions, and to meet you exactly as you are by working within your values and beliefs. I recognize that many individuals feel overlooked, disregarded, and discriminated against within this country’s mental health system. With this in mind, I offer a sliding scale rate to those who hold historically marginalized identities with the intention of increasing accessibility. Please inquire for more information.
